The Cheetah’s 2-cycle engine produces carbon monoxide (over 25,000 ppm) which is the lethal gas that kills burrowing animals. Through our comprehensive testing we have determined the optimum air/carbon monoxide mixture, engine settings and length of time to fumigate a rodent burrow.
Analysis of the capabilities of the Cheetah is measured on an artificial above ground test bed that consists of 155 feet of 3” and 4” pvc round tubing that simulates a rodent tunnel system which allows us to analyze different burrow configurations.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is measured in parts per million (ppm). Our API 707 CO meter assures the accuracy of our tests. Carbon monoxide levels of over 10,000 ppm will kill a ground squirrel in less than 2 minutes. Larger animals such as ground hogs and prairie dogs require 5 to 6 minutes. The Cheetah blows CO into tunnels with low velocity air (25 CFM); traveling at over one foot per second.

Testing the Cheetah
After a burrow system is fumigated the CO levels in the tunnel system will continue to stay over 8,000 ppm for at least 8 minutes, as long as the tunnel entrances have been filled with soil. The Cheetah uses a patented air-mixture valve that propels the CO through tunnels at over 1 foot per second.
We test actual squirrel burrows in the field to make sure that we are achieving our target carbon monoxide saturation level of over 10,000 ppm in the tunnel system. We continue to work with our customers and study our own squirrel eradication program on four parcels of land totaling over twenty-two acres.
Three applications will usually be enough to cull the rodent population. Most of our studies are now concentrated on how re-infestation occurs from adjacent land into land that has had its rodent population eliminated.
